Missed the grand prize

Our church and my Dad's place of business were having the annual picnic on the same day and as luck would have it in picnic groves directly across the street from one another. I registered for the grand prize a the church picnic and knew that I had to be there when they drew the winning ticket but I figured I had lots of time so I went across the street to get something to eat with my parents who were at Dad's picnic. Then someone came running up to me and told me they called my name for the grand prize, I ran accross the street but when I got there they told me they drew another name because I wasn't present according to the rules and I lost out.
